Android 17 introduces One UI 9 for Samsung Galaxy phones and virtual gamepad for foldable devices

Samsung is expanding testing of One UI 9, built on Android 17, to a wide range of Galaxy smartphones, tablets and foldables. Internal builds now cover models such as the Galaxy S26 series, A26, A36, A37, several M and F series devices, and the Z Fold5, Fold6, Flip5, Flip6 and upcoming Z Fold8 and Flip8. The rollout targets Europe and India, with the public beta currently limited to the S26 line. One UI 9 will bring quick‑panel tweaks, new Samsung Notes functions, contact enhancements and additional security features, and is slated for official presentation at the Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22.

Google has released the stable version of Android 17, adding a virtual gamepad designed for foldable devices. The feature splits the screen 50/50, allowing one half to act as an onscreen controller with selectable button layouts and colors. It works only with games that already support physical controllers and can be hidden if not needed. Google says the virtual gamepad will be delivered via Play Store updates in the coming months.
