Android Auto compatibility changes and new infotainment options

Users of older smartphones are reporting warnings that Android Auto will soon no longer be supported. While Google’s official support page still lists Android 9 Pie as the minimum requirement for wired connections, recent user reports suggest that Android 11 may become the new mandatory minimum for wired use.

Devices affected by this potential change include the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Samsung Galaxy S9, and Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact, as these models did not receive official software updates beyond Android 10. This would bring the requirements for wired connections in line with the existing requirements for wireless Android Auto.

As an alternative for vehicles lacking modern infotainment systems, Aldi Süd is offering a BAUHN Smart Display for 29.99 Euro. The 7-inch touchscreen device supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing users to access navigation, music, and calls via a dedicated dashboard screen.
