Android Bedtime Mode and H+ Network Icons Explained

The small bed icon that appears on Android phones signals that Bedtime mode, part of Google’s Digital Wellbeing suite, is active. When enabled, the device may switch to a dark theme, apply a grayscale filter, dim the screen and activate Do Not Disturb to reduce nighttime usage and promote better sleep. Users can manually turn the feature on or set a schedule, and it is available on most Android devices regardless of manufacturer.

The “H+” symbol shown next to signal bars indicates that the phone has switched to HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access Plus) technology, an enhanced 3G network often described as 3.5G. This connection is used when 4G or 5G coverage is weak or congested, such as in rural areas or crowded venues. Although data speeds are lower than newer standards, the network still supports typical activities like messaging and email, helping maintain continuous internet access.
