Android overheating can damage batteries via background apps

Android smartphones experiencing overheating issues may be suffering from background applications consuming excessive power. Excessive heat can cause irreversible damage to lithium-ion batteries by accelerating internal chemical reactions, leading to reduced capacity and sudden power drops.

To mitigate this, users can identify problematic apps by navigating to Settings, then Battery, and selecting Battery Usage. On certain devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S25+ running One UI, users can limit background activity by selecting the specific app and enabling background usage limits.
