Android Private DNS feature can block in-app advertisements

Android devices running version 9 or newer include a built-in Private DNS feature that can block a significant portion of advertisements in apps and games without requiring additional software, VPNs, or rooting.

To enable this, users can navigate to their network settings and select the Private DNS option. By entering ‘dns.adguard-dns.com’ as the provider, the device will recognize and prevent connections to known advertising domains. This method is particularly effective for reducing banner and video ads in free mobile games.

However, this is not a universal solution. Some ads embedded directly into content may still appear. Additionally, blocking ads may prevent users from receiving rewards in games that require watching an advertisement. Users may also encounter connectivity issues with certain websites or public Wi-Fi networks that use login portals. If issues arise, the setting can be reverted to ‘Automatic’.
