Andros International Sailing Race to begin August 27
The 59th Eurobank International Sailing Race of Andros ‘I. V. Goulandris’ is scheduled to begin on August 27. Co-organized by the Andros Nautical Club and the Hellenic Nautical Club, the event features 16 entries, including Olympic sailors and world champions.
The race will start from the waters of Voulagmeni, with the first leg covering 72 nautical miles to the town of Andros. Competitors will face challenging conditions in the open Aegean Sea, where winds can significantly increase difficulty. Notable participants include Olympians Takis Mantis and Pavlos Kagialis aboard the ‘Velos Eurobank Private Banking’.
This year’s event carries symbolic weight as it honors the memory of Christoforos Stratos. To commemorate him, a new apprenticeship program has been established for sailors under the age of 25 participating in the race for the first time. The program will bear his name.
In addition to the competitive racing, the event includes coastal sailing and a final race from Chora to Dysvato. Sponsors include Eurobank, the naming partner, and Porsche, which will present the electric Cayenne during the festivities.
