Andros Townsend struck by pitch roller during warm-up in Thailand

Former England international Andros Townsend narrowly escaped serious injury after being struck by a motorized pitch roller during a pre-match warm-up in Thailand. The incident occurred at Tinsulanon Stadium during a Thai League 1 match between Townsend’s club, PT Prachuap, and Pattani FC.

While Townsend was warming up during the halftime interval, a maintenance vehicle used for leveling the turf collided with him. Footage of the incident showed the machine passing over the 35-year-old player’s legs and lower body. Despite the alarming nature of the accident, medical staff cleared him after determining he had only sustained minor bruises and superficial wounds.

In a remarkable turn of events, Townsend was able to return to the pitch, appearing as a substitute in the final minutes of the match. His team, PT Prachuap, went on to win the game 3-0. Following the incident, Townsend used social media to make light of the situation, joking about the experience in comparison to playing in colder English climates.
