Andros wildfire: Gale-force winds hamper firefighting efforts
A wildfire broke out late Thursday night in the Agia Faneromeni area of Andros, affecting low vegetation. Emergency response teams, including the Fire Service, SEDAS, and the Municipality of Andros' Civil Protection, are currently on-site.
Extinguishing efforts are being severely hampered by gale-force winds, which increase the risk of the fire spreading. The Municipality of Andros has reported that the fire front is moving toward the Andros Gorge.
Authorities noted that the operation is particularly difficult due to the nighttime timing, which has resulted in limited visibility and challenging access to the area. Civil Protection has advised citizens to avoid the vicinity and to follow instructions from official sources.
