András Baka addresses IX. International Congress of Hungarology

At the opening of the IX. International Congress of Hungarology at the University of Miskolc, President András Baka emphasized the importance of national self-knowledge in an era of rapid political, social, and cultural change.

Baka stated that the image of the Hungarian nation is not merely a legacy but an achievement shaped by cultural and scientific results, as well as how the nation presents itself globally. He noted that understanding how historical experiences and cultural encounters form this image helps the nation understand itself more accurately.

The President also highlighted the necessity of scientific freedom and the meeting of diverse perspectives. He argued that genuine scientific dialogue requires the space for debate and criticism, which should encourage nuanced thinking and deeper understanding. Baka expressed his commitment to supporting initiatives through diplomatic means that serve to preserve and enrich the nation's shared values.
