Péter Fejes nominated as Prosecutor General by President Baka

President András Baka has nominated Péter Fejes for the position of Prosecutor General in Hungary. This second attempt follows the Parliament's rejection of the previous nominee, Zoltán Szathmáry, in late September.

Fejes is a retired prosecutor with nearly 40 years of experience, having served in various roles including prosecutor and spokesperson. He has also taught at ELTE and Pázmány Péter Catholic University. President Baka emphasized that Fejes is non-partisan, possesses professional independence, and has the necessary experience to restore trust in the prosecution service, which has faced recent instability.

However, the nomination presents political complexities. Fejes is 66 years old, which may conflict with recent age-limit policies for high-ranking judicial offices. Additionally, his previous tenure as a chief prosecutor ended due to a loss of confidence under former Prosecutor General Péter Polt. The nomination now requires a two-thirds majority in Parliament for approval.
