Andrés García Ibáñez exhibition opens at Fundación Bancaja
The Fundación Bancaja in Valencia has launched a monographic exhibition dedicated to the artist Andrés García Ibáñez. The collection features approximately eighty works spanning his career from the mid-1990s to the present, including several previously unpublished pieces.
The exhibition is organized into four sections, exploring the artist's relationship with classical painting genres and his influences. One section focuses on traditional genres such as portraits, landscapes, and still lifes, characterized by expressive brushwork and a commitment to naturalism. Another section, titled ‘Myth and Allegory’, examines his interpretations of classical mythological themes and his re-reading of significant works from art history.
García Ibáñez's work is rooted in the diverse Spanish realist tradition, encompassing allegory, meta-painting, and naturalism. The exhibition also includes eleven compositions by masters he considers his influences, including Francisco de Goya, Joaquín Sorolla, Antonio López, Ignacio Zuloaga, and Juan Valdés Leal.
