Andrés Gómez Mora, former Eurocaja Rural president, dies at 89

Andrés Gómez Mora, the long‑time president of Eurocaja Rural, died in Toledo at the age of 89. He led the cooperative bank for 28 years, overseeing its growth and rebranding, and was praised for his humility, prudence and commitment to rural development.

Mora was also the founder and first president of the Council of the DOP Aceite Montes de Toledo, a role he held from its creation in 1997 until his death. The DOP highlighted his decisive contribution to establishing the quality label, promoting the cornicabra olive variety and supporting the cooperative olive‑oil sector in Castilla‑La Mancha. He remained active in the sector as a member of the Fundación del Consejo Regulador board and as president of Oleotoledo.

The cooperative and the DOP both issued statements of condolence, noting his influence on agrarian cooperativism, his support for vulnerable groups, and his numerous recognitions, including the 2019 Hijo Predilecto of Castilla‑La Mancha award and the 2025 Premios Cornicabra de Oro.
