Andrés Guardado nears coaching role with Mexico national team

Andrés Guardado is nearing an agreement to join the coaching staff of the Mexico national football team. The former midfielder is set to serve as an assistant to head coach Rafael Márquez as part of the sporting process leading toward the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Guardado, who holds the record for the most appearances for the Mexican national team, expressed enthusiasm about the potential role. He noted that while a formal contract has not yet been signed, discussions are advanced. He highlighted the significance of working alongside Márquez, whom he described as an idol since his early days at Atlas.

In this new capacity, Guardado is expected to utilize his nearly two decades of international experience to help develop emerging talents such as Armando González, Gilberto Mora, and Obed Vargas. His playing career included five consecutive World Cups and multiple Gold Cup titles.
