Andrés Horacio Sánchez Mota arrested for domestic violence

The Dominican Republic's Public Ministry has arrested Andrés Horacio Sánchez Mota to serve a definitive five-year prison sentence for gender and domestic violence against his former partner.

The arrest follows a series of nationwide searches conducted by the Unit for the Capture of Fugitives, Rebels, and Convicts (Ucaprec). The sentence was issued by the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, which overturned a previous acquittal granted by the Second Chamber of the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal of the National District in August 2025.

Rather than ordering a new trial, the Supreme Court accepted the Public Ministry's cassation appeal and directly issued a guilty verdict. The case involves violations of the Dominican Penal Code related to violence and threats, including the alleged dissemination of a video on digital platforms. The victim had publicly reported receiving threats and stated that restraining orders were in place as far back as June 2024.
