András Jámbor launches new progressive movement in Hungary

András Jámbor, a former Hungarian Member of Parliament, has announced the launch of a new political and cultural movement called ‘Irány’ (The Direction). Published via Substack, Jámbor stated that the initiative is not intended to become a political party.

The movement aims to rebuild the Hungarian left by creating a political, social, and cultural space that is currently lacking. Jámbor plans to organize a series of public discussions and festivals to facilitate face-to-face meetings between progressive individuals, organizations, trade unions, researchers, politicians, and cultural influencers.

Jámbor noted that while much of Hungarian political discourse has focused on the leadership of Viktor Orbán, the movement will address broader contemporary issues such as the climate crisis, artificial intelligence, economic crises, housing, and women's rights. He emphasized that the movement is driven by social needs and real community cooperation rather than the will of a single leader.
