Andrés “Licho” Matos honored at Dominican National Congress

Political leaders and colleagues gathered at the National Congress to pay tribute to former deputy and communicator Andrés “Licho” Matos during his funeral honors. Matos, a prominent figure in the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), passed away on August 12, 2026, at the age of 70 at the CEDIMAT health center following several months of critical health complications.

Senator Moisés Ayala praised Matos’s long-standing commitment to the PRM, noting his role in managing the party's communications since its founding. Jesús “Chu” Vásquez Martínez, the Consul General of the Dominican Republic in New York, described him as a humble and honest man with an extraordinary vocation for service who remained deeply connected to his community.

Born in San José de Ocoa, Matos began his career as a secondary school teacher before transitioning into journalism and political communication. He is remembered as a key figure in Dominican political communication and community activism within the Greater Santo Domingo area.
