Claudia Sheinbaum denies FGR investigation into Andy López Beltrán FAST-MOVING
President Claudia Sheinbaum has dismissed a report by The New York Times alleging that U.S. security agencies are reviewing accusations against Andrés Manuel López Beltrán. The report suggests that the son of former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador may have links to organized crime and fuel smuggling, also known as 'huachicol'.
Sheinbaum clarified during a press conference that the Mexican Attorney General's Office (FGR) has no knowledge of any formal investigation into these matters. She emphasized that the New York Times report itself acknowledges that no formal criminal investigation or legal process has been initiated by U.S. authorities.
The journalist responsible for the report was also criticized by the President, who questioned the credibility of the reporting based on previous coverage. According to the newspaper, the scrutiny is based on information from five anonymous sources and includes claims that López Beltrán attempted to contact U.S. officials through intermediaries earlier this year.
