Andrés Manuel López Beltrán Rejects ‘Andy’ Nickname, Demands Full Name

Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, the 39‑year‑old son of former Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has publicly demanded that he be addressed by his complete name. In a May 2025 interview on the program “La Moreniza,” he said that being called “Andy” diminishes his legacy and that opponents use the nickname to undermine him. He insists on being called “Andrés Manuel López Beltrán” and objects even to the shortened “Andrés López Beltrán.”

López Beltrán noted that some young women members of the ruling MORENA party use the nickname affectionately, but he views any reduction of his name as disrespectful. Critics argue that the dispute adds unnecessary noise to his political image, suggesting he may benefit from professional coaching on public communication.
