Claudia Sheinbaum denies AMLO national tour rumors

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has dismissed reports regarding a potential national tour by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Sheinbaum stated during a press conference that she has no information confirming such a plan, labeling the rumors as false.

The reports, originally circulated by journalist Carlos Loret de Mola, suggested that López Obrador might embark on a tour between February and April 2027 to promote his book, ‘Pueblo’, while simultaneously supporting Morena party candidates ahead of the midterm elections. The reports also speculated on the use of book royalties or party resources to fund the travel.

While denying the tour is planned, Sheinbaum argued that if the former president chose to engage in public activities, it would be his right as a citizen. She cited former President Felipe Calderón’s political activities as a precedent. Sheinbaum further characterized the spread of these rumors as an ‘information fraud’ intended to weaken the ‘Fourth Transformation’ movement.
