Andrés Roche named PSC candidate for Guayaquil mayor

Andrés Roche Pesantes has been named the Social Christian Party (PSC) candidate for the 2027-2031 mayoral term in Guayaquil. The PSC seeks to reclaim the city after losing its 31-year continuous administration three years ago.

Roche, described as a trusted figure of Jaime Nebot, brings experience from his role as general manager of the Municipal Transit Authority (ATM) and his time as an alternate assembly member from 2022 to 2023. His campaign platform focuses on a fiscal model prioritizing 85% investment over 15% current spending, while criticizing the current administration's performance regarding public works and security.

His candidacy follows several controversies, including a 2025 video involving an altercation with the Director of Public Procurement. Additionally, Roche has alleged political persecution by the government, claiming the freezing of his companies' bank accounts is an attempt to neutralize political candidates.
