Anduril Industries to build $6.6B Arsenal-2 shipyard in Maryland

Anduril Industries is launching a $6.6 billion public-private venture to establish the Arsenal-2 shipyard in Baltimore, Maryland. The project involves $3.7 billion in private capital from Anduril and a complementary U.S. Navy contract valued at up to $2.9 billion.

Located at the Tradepoint Atlantic industrial complex in Sparrows Point, the facility is designed to produce critical components for Virginia-class nuclear attack submarines. The shipyard aims to provide a 15% capacity boost to the U.S. nuclear shipbuilding industrial base, addressing production bottlenecks currently faced by legacy shipbuilders.

The facility will feature a 1,200-foot graving dock and direct rail access. The project is expected to create 3,100 direct jobs and support over 11,000 indirect jobs, generating an estimated $2 billion in annual economic output. While full operations in Maryland are scheduled to begin in 2030, Anduril plans to start delivering components, such as torpedo tubes, from its Costa Mesa site by 2028.
