Andy Baker to depart White House national security team

White House Deputy National Security Adviser Andy Baker is expected to depart the Trump administration within the coming weeks. Baker, who also served as national security adviser to Vice President JD Vance, has been described as an influential figure in shaping the administration’s foreign policy.

Baker’s departure follows recent staff changes, including the resignation of Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. He is expected to transition to the private sector. His exit occurs amid heightened tensions with Iran and increased maritime activity in the Strait of Hormuz.

In statements, Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised Baker’s service. Baker noted he is “proud of everything we’ve achieved” and expressed gratitude to the President and Vice President. He reportedly stayed in his role longer than originally planned to assist with staff transitions, including the arrival of Mike Needham as a deputy national security adviser and Cliff Sims as national security adviser to Vance.
