Andy Beshear criticizes tariffs and discusses new memoir

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear is addressing national partisan divides and economic concerns through his upcoming memoir, ‘Go and Do Likewise: How We Heal a Broken Country’. In the book, Beshear argues that the language of faith can be used to bridge political divides, citing the parable of the Good Samaritan as an instruction for kindness rather than cruelty.

Speaking at a Kentucky Distillers' Association meeting in Louisville, Beshear also voiced opposition to President Trump’s tariff policies. He noted that trade tensions with Canada have caused bourbon exports to Canada to drop by 85%. Beshear criticized the administration's approach, stating that the president has insulted Canadian relations.

Regarding social policy, Beshear linked Democratic initiatives, such as food assistance for children and seniors, to biblical lessons of ensuring everyone has enough in times of scarcity. He specifically criticized efforts to cut SNAP benefits during a government shutdown, characterizing such actions as contrary to Christian values.
