Andy Beshear faces Democratic criticism over Texas race funding
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear is facing internal Democratic criticism regarding his leadership of the Democratic Governors Association (DGA) and his focus on a national book tour. Texas Democratic members of Congress and group leaders have accused Beshear of failing to provide sufficient financial support for Gina Hinojosa’s gubernatorial campaign in Texas. While Hinojosa and her allies initially requested $10 million to compete against Republican Governor Greg Abbott, the DGA has announced plans to contribute $1 million, with no guarantee of further funding.
Texas Representative Sylvia Garcia suggested that the lack of focus on the Texas race could create a “Latino problem” for Beshear in future elections. Beshear’s aides have defended his actions, noting that DGA internal polling shows Hinojosa trailing by 5 points and arguing that funds are often more effectively deployed in other states.
Beshear’s recent publication, “Go and Do Likewise,” has also drawn attention as a potential vehicle for a 2028 presidential bid. The book positions him as a moderate who emphasizes moral character and unity, frequently referencing Donald Trump as a political adversary. While Beshear maintains the book was written to address the misuse of faith in politics rather than to launch a campaign, observers view the national tour as a means to increase his profile.
