Andy Burnham rules out Green Party deals over Zionism motion

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has ruled out any future power-sharing agreements or political partnerships with the Green Party of England and Wales. This decision follows the Green Party's recent conference motion, which declared Zionism to be a form of racism. Burnham condemned the motion as “wrong” and “antisemitic,” stating that the Labour Party would have nothing to do with a party holding such a position.

In response to the motion, Labour has also instructed its local branches to terminate existing power-sharing arrangements with Green councillors unless those representatives explicitly reject the policy. The motion, which passed with 1,022 votes to 813, advocates for a single democratic state in historic Palestine.

Concurrently, Green Party member Lubna Speitan, who was instrumental in the motion, reported receiving numerous death and rape threats via social media and email. She described the messages as an attempt at intimidation.

In separate political developments, the IMF advised the UK government to prioritize cutting state spending over raising taxes or borrowing to meet rising defence spending commitments. Meanwhile, Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has continued to challenge the administration on issues ranging from welfare reform to national sovereignty.
