Andy Burnham faces scrutiny over ties to Manchester City

The Liberal Democrats have called on Prime Minister Andy Burnham to disclose all meetings and hospitality received from Manchester City owners and Abu Dhabi representatives. The demand follows Burnham’s recent comments defending the club as a “huge partner” in Manchester’s development, shortly after an independent commission found Manchester City guilty of serious Premier League financial rule breaches involving over £900 million in understated costs.

Investigations have highlighted previously deleted entries from a register of interests during Burnham’s first term as Mayor of Greater Manchester. These records suggest he accepted City-funded hospitality, including luxury suites at the Etihad Stadium and meals valued at several hundred pounds. Critics, including the Liberal Democrats, are questioning the nature of his relationship with City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and the Abu Dhabi United Group, urging full transparency regarding any gifts or official interactions.
