Andy Burnham marks 25th anniversary of 9/11 attacks

On the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Prime Minister Andy Burnham expressed the United Kingdom's unity with the United States, stating that the two nations “stand together in memory of those we lost, and in defence of the values we cherish.”

Burnham noted that nearly 3,000 people were killed in the attacks, including 67 British citizens. He warned that “terror still knocks at the door of democracy” but emphasized that hatred and fear did not have the last word.

Reflecting on his time as mayor of Greater Manchester, Burnham recalled the messages of support received from across the US following terrorist attacks in Manchester. He highlighted the connection between the two regions, noting that children of 9/11 victims had previously sent messages of solidarity to the families of those killed in Manchester.
