Andy Farrell announces Ireland squad for November internationals
Ireland head coach Andy Farrell has named a 36-man squad for the upcoming November Nations Championship matches against Argentina, Fiji, and South Africa. The selection includes first-time call-ups for Ulster players Jamie Benson and James McNabney. Benson, a 24-year-old centre/fly-half, is Irish-qualified through his mother.
The squad selection shows a significant disparity in provincial representation. Munster is notably underrepresented with only Tadhg Beirne and Craig Casey included, while Connacht has eight players, Ulster has nine, and Leinster has 17.
In response to the selection, pundit Stephen Ferris suggested that Farrell could have explored the eligibility of Kieran Brookes. Brookes, a former England prop currently with Munster, is Irish-qualified through his mother and has not played test rugby in a decade, making him eligible to switch allegiances under World Rugby rules.
