Andy Grote denies confusion over German drone defense responsibilities

Hamburg Interior Senator Andy Grote has denied claims of confusion regarding drone defense responsibilities in Germany. Speaking to ZDF, Grote clarified that jurisdictions are well-defined: the Federal Police manage airports, the Bundeswehr handles military defense and facility protection, and state police forces are responsible for other areas, including critical infrastructure.

Grote noted that while responsibilities are clear, there is a need for a more cohesive, shared strategy. He emphasized the importance of rapid situational analysis, better cooperation, and a unified overview to facilitate quick decision-making during incidents.

In a related development, a new technology center for drone security is opening at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Cochstedt. The facility will focus on researching, developing, and testing new drone security techniques under realistic conditions.
