Andrés Manuel López Beltrán challenges U.S. visa revocation
The revocation of the U.S. visa for Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, son of former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has sparked significant political debate in Mexico.
López Beltrán has denounced the decision in a letter to Donald Trump, describing the move as a “political and propagandistic” act. He accused U.S. officials of acting with arrogance and political motives.
A national telephone poll conducted by El Universal reveals a divided public perception. While 50.1% of respondents believe the revocation is driven by political motives, 64.4% believe the United States likely possesses substantial evidence against him, potentially related to allegations of fiscal irregularities.
Political figures have also weighed in. PRI deputy Rubén Moreira Valdez characterized the situation as a crisis for the Morena party, suggesting that personal matters are being elevated to state issues. Meanwhile, 59.4% of those surveyed expressed support for President Claudia Sheinbaum’s stance on maintaining national sovereignty through cooperation without subordination.
