Andy Reid suggests retirement may precede Patrick Mahomes' exit
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has suggested that his tenure with the team may conclude before quarterback Patrick Mahomes retires. During a press conference, the 68-year-old coach addressed the long-term quarterback situation by stating, “I don’t worry about it because he’ll be here a lot longer than I am.”
Reid, who signed a five-year, $100 million extension in April 2024, indicated that the task of finding Mahomes’ successor will likely fall to a future coach. Mahomes, currently 30 and entering his 10th NFL season, has expressed a desire to play for many years.
Mahomes also spoke at training camp about his perspective on his career longevity and the importance of enjoying the current moment. He is currently recovering from ACL surgery and aiming to be ready for the regular season opener against the Denver Broncos on September 14.
