Andy Robertson reflects on Celtic release and defends Florian Wirtz

Andy Robertson has reflected on his professional journey, describing his release from Celtic FC as a youth player as ‘the best thing that happened to me’. The 32-year-old, who recently moved to Tottenham Hotspur after a long tenure at Liverpool, noted that being released at age 15 allowed him to find more competitive playing time elsewhere rather than remaining in a youth system without senior opportunities.

In addition to discussing his career beginnings, Robertson defended Liverpool teammate Florian Wirtz following criticism regarding his performance levels. While acknowledging that the German playmaker must prove himself in the Premier League, Robertson described Wirtz as a ‘really special footballer’. He suggested that Wirtz’s statistical output has been impacted by teammates failing to convert the high-quality chances he creates.
