Andy Scott clarifies official name of glam rock band Sweet

Andy Scott, the lead guitarist and songwriter for the influential 1970s glam rock band Sweet, has addressed the long-standing debate regarding whether the group should be referred to as ‘The Sweet’ or simply ‘Sweet’.

In a recent interview, Scott explained that while the band was referred to as ‘The Sweet’ in its early years—up until approximately 1973—the members eventually decided to drop the definite article. This decision was made to align with other contemporary acts that used single-word names. Scott noted that while promoters and record re-releases often use ‘The Sweet’ due to historical habit, the band’s preference evolved to ‘Sweet’ as their career progressed.

Scott currently leads a version of the group that tours the United Kingdom and Australia. The classic lineup previously included Brian Connolly, Steve Priest, and Mick Tucker, all of whom have since passed away. Scott’s current iteration of the band released the studio album ‘Full Circle’ in September 2024.
