Andy Warhol Museum attracts 11,000 visitors after reconstruction
The Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art in Medzilaborce has attracted more than 11,300 visitors during its first month following a major reconstruction. The museum, which is the only European institution dedicated to the pop art icon, saw peak attendance during weekends with approximately 1,000 visitors per day.
International interest has been noted from tourists traveling from the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Nigeria, and the Philippines. The museum has also become a hub for educational activities, hosting 73 lecture programs and 10 workshops for school groups from Slovakia and Poland.
The three-year modernization project cost 15.9 million euros and was funded by the Prešov Self-Governing Region, the state, and European funds. The renovation expanded exhibition spaces and introduced new features, including a walkable vegetated roof with an amphitheater, a new steel facade, and a dedicated 'Factory' exhibition zone. Technological upgrades include virtual and mixed reality, digital silk-screen printing, and robotic mobile boxes to assist with visitor movement.
