Andy Warhol Museum reopens in Medzilaborce after €15.9 million renovation

The Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art in Medzilaborce, Slovakia, has officially reopened following a comprehensive three-year reconstruction costing approximately €15.9 million. The project, funded by the Prešov Self-Governing Region, the Slovak state, and the European Union, has transformed the facility into a modern cultural center.

The renovated museum features expanded exhibition and educational spaces, new interactive and multimedia technologies, an amphitheater, and a multifunctional roof. The collection has grown significantly and now includes over 400 original works by Warhol, alongside approximately 120 works by other pop art and contemporary artists such as Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, and Banksy.

The reopening ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Slovak President Peter Pellegrini and National Council Speaker Richard Raši, as well as Donald Warhol, the artist's nephew. The museum serves as a vital link to Warhol's Rusyn heritage, connecting his global pop art legacy to his family's roots in the region.
