Aneel maintains yellow electricity tariff flag for September

The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) has announced that the yellow tariff flag will be maintained for September, marking the fifth consecutive month of this status for consumers connected to the National Interconnected System (SIN). This decision results in an additional cost of R$ 1.885 for every 100 kWh consumed.

According to Aneel, the decision is driven by a dry period in Brazil, which has lowered hydroelectric reservoir levels and necessitated the use of more expensive thermoelectric power plants. The agency has recommended conscious energy consumption to help mitigate costs.

In response to tariff instability, industry experts from EcoPower suggest that investing in solar energy can serve as a financial protection strategy, providing operational predictability and reducing fixed costs for households and businesses.

Separately, in Rio Grande do Sul, the Procon of Taquara has notified the utility company RGE following numerous consumer complaints regarding significant electricity bill increases. RGE stated that its annual tariff adjustment, approved by Aneel, resulted in an average increase of 12.39% for all consumers this year.
