Anđelina Džoli’s Film “Couture” Explores Personal Breast‑Cancer Journey

Serbian actress Anđelina Džoli stars in and produces the new drama “Couture,” portraying American director Maksin whose life pivots during Paris Fashion Week. The plot follows Maksin’s high‑profile project, a romance with a French colleague and the shock of a breast‑cancer diagnosis received by phone.

The film mirrors Džoli’s own experience: in 2013 she underwent a preventive double mastectomy after discovering she carries the BRCA1 mutation, a condition that claimed her mother, aunt and grandmother to ovarian and breast cancer. Džoli said, “I feel this is a very personal film. It is probably the only film for me that doesn’t feel like a film.” She also revealed she wore one of her mother’s necklaces while shooting for comfort.

“Couture” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025 and is slated for a wider theatrical release. The cast includes Ela Rumpf, Garans Marije, Anjijer Anej and Vensan Lindon.
