Anđelo Kvesić wins Super Eight karate tournament in Zagreb
Croatian karate representative Anđelo Kvesić has successfully defended his title at the prestigious Super Eight international tournament held in Zagreb. This marks Kvesić’s third victory at the event, following previous wins in 2016 and 2025.
In the Red Group, Kvesić secured first place by defeating Matteo Fiore of Italy (4-0), Kirill Kovalev of Russia (1-0), and Melabi Gelashvili of Georgia (2-0). In the Blue Group, Croatian representative Enes Garibović finished in third place after defeating Simone Marino of Italy, despite losses to Anes Bostandžić of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Keisey Sakiyama of Japan.
For the first time in the tournament's 32-year history, a final match was not held. The scheduled final between Kvesić and Bostandžić could not take place because Bostandžić was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury. Consequently, Kvesić was awarded the title without a final bout. This victory continues a streak of eight consecutive years where Croatian athletes have won the tournament.
