Mayors within the Anenii Noi district have passed a resolution opposing the selection of their territory, including the village of Șerpeni, as the site for a new regional waste management center.

The local leaders are calling on authorities to conduct comparative analyses of alternative locations and to perform comprehensive studies on the cumulative environmental impacts. They expressed concerns that placing new infrastructure near existing waste facilities in Țânțăreni could negatively affect air quality, soil, water, biodiversity, and public health. Additionally, they requested an assessment of potential risks to the Bâc river basin and the Nistru river.

Minister of Environment Gheorghe Hajder stated that the current project proposes the construction of the regional center near the Bulboaca Military Training Base. He noted that the proposed site is located approximately 6 km from Șerpeni and 4 km from Speia, adding that community concerns must be discussed and clarified.
