ANFIA chief Vavassori to protest EU car emission rules in Strasbourg

ANFIA president Roberto Vavassori announced a protest of the Italian automotive supply chain in Strasbourg during the second half of October, coinciding with the European Parliament plenary session. The demonstration will demand that the EU revise its 2035 CO₂ emission target for new cars from a 100 % reduction to a 90 % reduction, equivalent to a flexibility of about 11.5 g CO₂ per kilometre.

Vavassori warned that without such adjustments, Chinese manufacturers could capture up to one million vehicles per year from the European market and that more than 500,000 jobs in the European automotive sector could be at risk. He also called for the mobilisation of idle European capital—estimated at €10 trillion, including €1.6 trillion in Italy—to create publicly backed “super‑companies” with EU support of a 5 % capital guarantee.
