ANFP presidential race narrows to two candidates

The race for the presidency of the Asociación Nacional de Fútbol Profesional (ANFP) in Chile has narrowed to two candidates following the withdrawal of César Villegas, president of Deportes Limache. Villegas stated his decision was driven by members of his proposed board withdrawing after allegations regarding his past surfaced. Villegas described these claims as “argumentos muy sucios” (very dirty arguments), specifically denying accusations of domestic violence while acknowledging a driving under the influence incident from his youth.

The upcoming election, scheduled for November 19, will feature Jorge Uauy and Jorge Yunge. Uauy, a former president of Palestino, is viewed by former ANFP president Ricardo Abumohor as a capable candidate who can bring transparency to the organization. Yunge, an associate of current president Pablo Milad, is running to maintain continuity within the federation. The winner will face the immediate task of appointing a new head coach for the Chilean national team.
