Ang Thong faces rising flood risks as Chao Phraya Dam increases water discharge
The Royal Irrigation Department has increased the water discharge rate at the Chao Phraya Dam from 1,950 to 2,000 cubic meters per second to manage rising water levels from the north. This increase is expected to take approximately 17 to 18 hours to reach Ang Thong province, where water levels in the Chao Phraya and Noi rivers are projected to rise by about 30 centimeters.
In Ang Thong, flooding has already impacted four districts: Mueang, Pa Mok, Wiset Chai Chan, and Chaiyo. At the C7A telemetry station near the provincial hall, water levels reached 7.92 meters, just 8 centimeters below the 8-meter critical threshold. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has issued warnings to residents in downstream provinces to monitor official news closely, move belongings to higher ground, and exercise caution regarding electricity and water travel.
