Angel Augusto Suero Ramírez: Dominican entrepreneur and political figure

Angel Augusto Suero Ramírez, known as ‘Negro Suero’, was a multifaceted figure in Barahona, Dominican Republic, who served as an agricultural entrepreneur, municipal authority, cultural promoter, public official, and writer. A founding member of the 1963 Partido Acción Social, which later became the Reformista Party (now PRSC), he was also a prolific author of 14 books including short stories and novels.

Despite his professional successes, Suero Ramírez’s life was marked by political conflict. He faced imprisonment following allegations of murder stemming from a confrontation with a powerful sector of the Reformista Party. He passed away on January 2, 1997. In recognition of his contributions to the historical and cultural values of the region, a street in Barahona was named in his honor in 2008.
