Angel Capital targets Group 1 win in Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes

Trainer Chris Waller is targeting a Group 1 victory for Angel Capital in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield this Saturday. Despite a 17-start career showing Group 1 potential, the son of Harry Angel has yet to secure a win at the highest level.

Following a strong morning workout and a favorable barrier draw, the decision to run Angel Capital in the 1400m race was influenced by the presence of Tom Kitten, a higher-rated horse that helps mitigate Angel Capital’s weight. Waller noted that the horse has become more tractable and is expected to peak for the event.

Waller also has two other runners in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes: Lady Shenandoah and Sun God. Lady Shenandoah was recently scratched from The 7 Stakes at Randwick to avoid a conflict with Autumn Glow, as both mares share similar ownership interests. Waller aims to secure another Group 1 title for the three-time winner as an older mare.
