Angel Reese criticizes officiating after Dream loss in WNBA Finals
Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese has criticized officiating following a 64-55 loss to the Golden State Valkyries in Game 5 of the WNBA Finals. The defeat leaves the Dream trailing 3-2 in the series.
Reese stated that the officiating style changed after Atlanta took a 2-1 series lead, noting, “It definitely shifted... and I don’t know what happened, but it definitely took a big turn.” Dream coach Karl Smesko supported Reese, arguing that the level of contact allowed against her was “ridiculous” and suggesting the team should have received significantly more free throw opportunities.
In Game 5, Reese recorded 7 points and 15 rebounds on 2-for-8 shooting. This follows a similar performance in Game 4, where she scored 8 points. Reese also drew attention for her pre-game arrival, wearing an all-black outfit featuring a shirt with the message “Protect Black Women.”
