Angel Reese ties WNBA single-season double-double record

Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese tied the WNBA single-season record for double-doubles on Friday, recording her 28th of the year during a 101-83 loss to the Portland Fire. The milestone matches the mark previously set by Alyssa Thomas. Reese finished the game with 16 points, 16 rebounds, and six assists.

Despite the historic performance, the game was marked by controversy when Reese was assessed her eighth technical foul of the season following contact with Portland’s Carla Leite. The foul initially placed Reese at risk of a mandatory one-game suspension for the Dream’s upcoming matchup against the Minnesota Lynx.

However, the WNBA later rescinded the technical foul, returning Reese to seven technicals for the season and ensuring her eligibility for Sunday’s game. The night was also characterized by mixed performance, as Reese struggled with shooting efficiency, going 5-for-14 from the field.
