Angela Davis calls for organization against anti-feminist movements

During a discussion in Mexico City titled ‘Abolition, Feminism, Now!’, philosopher and activist Angela Davis called for organized action to counter the rise of anti-feminist and anti-gender campaigns globally. Davis emphasized that radical activists must generate hope by convincing people that a better world is possible through organization.

The event focused on the book ‘Abolition, Feminism, Now!’, co-authored by Davis, Gina Dent, Erica R. Meiners, and Beth E. Richie. The text proposes ending the prison system and criminal punishment as responses to gender-based violence.

Participating scholar Gina Dent explained that abolitionist feminism argues against using prisons to solve gender issues, suggesting that institutional violence must be abolished to address intimate violence. Davis characterized abolitionist feminism as a revolutionary framework aimed at overturning capitalism, racial capitalism, and colonialism.
