Angela Merkel promotes memoirs and attends museum portrait event
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel is engaging in new public activities through her memoirs and a featured portrait. In Bucharest, Romania, Merkel presented the Romanian edition of her memoir, ‘Freedom. Memories 1954–2021’. The book explores her life spanning 35 years in the German Democratic Republic and 35 years following German reunification, focusing on the concept of freedom and democratic values.
In Berlin, the Bode-Museum has extended the exhibition of Merkel’s portrait by artist Jérémie Queyras due to high visitor interest, which has nearly doubled since the painting's unveiling in June. Originally scheduled to move to the Federal Chancellery in early October, the portrait will now remain on display until January 3, 2027. Merkel is scheduled to attend a signing event at the museum on October 4.
