Angela Merkel receives Caritas Elisabethpreis
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel was awarded the Elisabethpreis by Caritas for her commitment to solidarity, responsibility, and respectful coexistence.
During the ceremony, satirist Sarah Bosetti delivered a pointed laudatory speech. Bosetti noted that Merkel is receiving the award for the very qualities for which she has faced significant criticism, specifically referencing her handling of the refugee crisis and her phrase ‘Wir schaffen das’.
Bosetti also included a satirical jab at Friedrich Merz, suggesting that Merkel helped Germany endure diverse political positions for many years prior to his leadership.
