Angela Mittlestadt pleads guilty to aggravated child abuse
Angela Mittlestadt has pleaded guilty to aggravated child abuse in Laramie County as part of a plea agreement. Under the terms of the deal, prosecutors will drop a conspiracy charge and recommend a prison sentence of 15 to 17 years. The charge of aggravated child abuse carries a maximum penalty of 25 years.
During the hearing, Mittlestadt admitted to depriving her adopted stepson of sufficient food, causing him serious injury. Court documents state the boy, who was adopted in 2018, was allegedly restricted to one meal per day. When evaluated at a Colorado hospital in June 2025, the child weighed only 55 pounds and lacked detectable Vitamin D levels.
Judge Peter Froehlicher has scheduled the sentencing hearing for December 14, pending a pre-sentence investigation. Mittlestadt currently remains free on bond.
Darrick Mittlestadt faces separate trial starting Tuesday, September 22. He is charged with both aggravated child abuse and conspiracy; if convicted on both, he could face up to 50 years in prison. Angela Mittlestadt is expected to testify during his trial.
